Ex Cinema Orchidea

Urban regeneration of an abandoned cinema in Reggio Calabria, Italy. The concept starts from the idea to open the existing building towards the city and the community. At present the property is extremely introverted and with a mix of functions that does not fully highlights its potential. The intervention involves a streamlining of the facade recovering the existing structure which will serve as partial structural support and container for the new functions. A new raised room rise from the ground floor which become a foyer completely fluid and lived by people. The portion of the building on the right is used for laboratories and teaching rooms or for free use by artists and students of the new performing center. The basement is recovered for the location of services and recording rooms.
