Riscoprire Pithecusae
The project of the renovation of Pithecusae museum in Lacco Ameno starts from the principle of preserve the ancient Villa Arbusto in order to give a new life to the archaeological rests which have a deep meaning for the history of Ischia and for the history of the Occidental culture. The concept is based on reversing the usual way of visiting a museum. Objects are not closed in showcases but free in the space and the visitors are an enclosed space where they can proceed to re-discover the remains through small windows. A sensitive path that evokes the idea of the archaeologist looking for ancient objects in a cave. A contrast in between the darkness of the parcours and the brightness of the museum’s rooms gives more importance to the objects. During the walk only the Nestore’s Cup is surprisingly shown inside the tunnel so the visitor can have a closer look to the most important element of the collection, the most ancient Occidental evidence of Greek writing.
